Bubbles at Hackescher Markt :D by justaspark

Bubbles at Hackescher Markt :D

This was in front of Hackescher Markt Suburban Train Station. The guy on the left was showing kids how to make big bubbles, and they really looked awesome.
What a nice fun candid shot

Hello, I saw this photo in the discussion "The shot that must have missed"

I can tell you why I feel it doesn't work for me if you would like.

First, there are two horizon lines in this photo. There is the line where the background building meets the ground, and then the line where the train passes above it. They do not run parallel and instead converge on the left of the photo. This is sort of disorienting to me. IT doesn't appear natural. And that is confusing to my eye.

But that is minor.

I feel for me there is a lack of true subject. Yes, I see the man making bubbles, and you have told us that is the subject in your explanation. But you shouldn't have to do that. I should be able to tell the subject as soon as I look at the photo. Instead I am checking out the cute tall girls in the background with the nice hair.

SO, I think composition is the problem. The scene is very interesting, but the composition leaves me confused. Perhaps a tighter crop that focuses on the man and the children with the bubbles? All the stuff in the bottom right (the backpack, the rainbow colored towel, etc..) is distracting and competes with your subject.

Hope you don't mind the criticism. Follow me as I complete my project and you will have PLENTY of opportunity to do the same.
Thanks,
Adam

@adambralston Ah, thanks! Sounds understandable. :)
As you can see, this shot was in October and I guess I would maybe process it differently today - it was just photo 30 and back then I knew almost nothing about cropping etc.
But really, thank you! I like criticism like that. You see what other people think and feel about your pictures.
I'll check out your page now or tomorrow! c:
