The City of Dubuque purchased the land to create this park in 1908. For a time, beginning in 1912, visitors arrived in the park by streetcar. In the 1930s, the city built many beautiful pavilions in the park based on Frank Lloyd Wrights' prairie architecture style. The distinguishing feature of this park is the undulating high bluff walkway pictured here that overlooks the Mississippi River and Lock & Dam No. 11.
