The United States Library of Congress is made up of three buildings, the oldest of which is the Thomas Jefferson building built between 1890 and 1897. The building is named for Thomas Jefferson because he offered his personal book collection to help establish the library after the British burned the Capitol in the War of 1812. This photograph is of the library's Great Hall.
Wonderful capture- instant fav. I have never been to the Library of Congress (crazy as I love libraries!!), but I have only been to D.C. a handful of times and most of the trips I took were connected to the museums.
Great historical documentation and super photo of one of my favorite libraries anywhere! Love the composition and POV here. The silhouetted statue in the foreground really completes the shot. Super Karen!
What a gorgeous place, and what a wonderful pov in this capture, fav. Many libraries, including the one at the University of Toronto where I worked before I retired, use catalogue records produced by LC, and of course also use the LC Subject Headings, which are search terms used in those records to describe the content of what's being catalogued. Perhaps someday I'll get to see this wonderful building.
