Rex, King of Carnival by khrunner

Rex, King of Carnival

This is an old souvenir of the Rex carnival ball. Rex is the overall King of Mardi Gras in New Orleans, and his ball is held on the night of Mardi Gras itself. The writing on the bottom says Rex and 1910. This letter opener belonged to my great grandmother. She and her sister attended the ball in 1910.
Fantastic shot of a piece of art.

@agedrunner @kporte @tjchapa Thank you so very much! Julie, I must confess that I don't know for sure if it's my great grandmother's call-out favor or if it belonged to Tante, her sister. We have two of them. My mother has the other one, along with the matching inkwell. I'm not sure what happened to the other inkwell, but I suspect one of my cousins has it. He collects carnival memorabilia. Mama also has a collection of Krewe pins that belonged to the same two ladies. I'll try to get a picture and post it.
