Prairie dogs always have a sentry on guard. This fellow was watching me closely from the safety of his burrow. Sadly, they are trying to colonize in a lawn where they are not welcome. I suspect they won't be there when I come by again.
@kporte They are very cute and, sadly, considered a prime target for extermination for many people. They have a sophisticated social order and support a whole ecosystem in their villages. I used to do a talk on this back in my zoo days. The developers come in and poison thousands in a colony when they want to construct something. I am always saddened with this happens.
