Hedge Sparrow Nest by kiwiflora

Hedge Sparrow Nest

We found this little nest with three babies and an egg hidden in one of our plants at the nursery. Often when we are loading plants into customers' vehicles, we spot nests (usually empty). When we found this one, we packed some other plants around it to keep it in the shade as it has been very hot here lately. Hopefully they'll survive and fledge.
Not exactly cute... but a wonderful shot!!!

I've hand raised some little birds,(when they fell out of nest, or the parents disappeared!) from almost this size!!! It's quite hard to feed them when they are this small!!!

@monkeykid Yes, Therese, they are rather ugly!! Thankfully the mother bird is still in attendance and feeding them. I'm going out into the nursery shortly to see how they are doing.

Lovely find, hopefully we can see some later shots as they grow.

@ssimon @denisedaly Last season we watched a mother thrush feeding five babies - full-time job for her. Because we have such hectic winds here, the nests often get blown down onto the ground :-(

Wow, that's really special :-)

Great shot. Love the shot we don't normally see. My daughters rabbit had babies. It was wonderful to see how she pulled her fur out to line the nest which we normally don't see as they are under ground

@csinger72 @tesssa Thanks for your compliments. The black plastic strips lining the nest have been pulled from the weedmat we have all our plants standing on.
