The design of the garden is by Robert Watson, Landscape Architect of Christchurch except for the Camellia Garden, which is by John Marsh, also of Christchurch. In keeping with the New Zealand theme, many natives are used and for colour New Zealand raised varieties of selections of exotics. Garden of Distinction Award winner for native plantings and NZ Gardens Trust Garden of National Significance. One kilometre of totara hedges, smaller hedges of miro and oleria separating 16 different segments designed by Robert Watson – a large, 4.2 hectare garden.
