Signs of the Times

As I drive around the Cape, there are signs everywhere, but this one made me actually pull over today. On 9/11 all the journalists at the paper I worked for were asked to cover their usual beats and mine was Chatham. I had to call all the churches in town to find out about prayer and candlelight services. I did not want to work. I did not want to leave the television. But a deadline loomed, and when I called this church one of the co-pastors (husband and wife team), Pastor Sue Baker answered. At some point in our conversation, I told her how much I was struggling with the assignment and and she asked me if she could pray with me. On the telephone. It really helped me that day, so when I drove by their church today, I couldn't help but stop to take a photo of their message this week. The other side says, "We are Prayer-Conditioned," which kind of cracked me up. My only other photos today were of food, and my son pushed me to post this one even though I posted a sign yesterday.
It's a great testament to this church and the pastor who helped you through a super horrible day in history. The message is so true. I'm not a super religious person, but I know there is power in prayer! Don't worry about posting two signs two days in a row -- this is your project! @Alecio told me, "the photo chooses me.". It's all so profound and wonderful! :-)

What a wonderful sentiment. We all have to hang on to something sometimes.

what a great sign and cool story. No panic just prayer. He did well

That is so good to hear, a church that is there to help in time of need. It was a terrible day in our history

I like that they have a sense of humour and are doing some play-on-words with their signage. They sound like good people (ps--on 9/11 I was home with 4 day old Sophie, sobbing and sobbing. Also saw some footage that was horrific on the news that they later stopped showing (men in business suits, jumping from high rises, ties fluttering in the wind on the way down)). Great message!

@5unflow3r I watched the second plane hit in real time and kept the TV on all day until my kids came home from school. I saw the same footage. It haunted me for so long...

I like this :] but I do think people need to learn to handle things themselves as well as praying about them...

yes it has been a tragic year - a lot of folk downunder have felt fragile - post floods, tsunamis and earthquakes - not to mention the economic blues

Lots of great messages and good feelings here, Laurie ... the obvious one on the board, the friendship and kindness shown by Pastor Sue, your heart-felt recollections from past years, and of course .... the good common sense showed by your son! Great choice for today's pic! Besides, your food pics make me hungry!

9/11 was such a tragic event, unfolding before the eyes of the world. It was hard to wrap your head around something like that, to put one foot in front of the other just to walk, let alone to continue to function and work. I am Agnostic, but I think if I were on the other end of that phone with her, I would've done the same thing. I like the puns that the churches throw up around town, always entertaining.
