This photo is a perfect reminder to always bring my camera with me. I was at the cash register at my local organic produce store and I heard the other clerk exclaim, "The hawk is back!" When I saw this guy sitting on the lawn eating a crow, I told the clerk I had to get a photo. I left my produce and debit card in the store while I raced to my car to grab my camera.
This red tailed hawk was so busy with the crow, that he let me get within two feet of him. I just kept snapping and creeping forward. I spend my whole first year trying to capture a hawk, so this photo made me very happy.
Wow, cuz, that is soooo close! So glad you finally captured this beautiful bird. And he took a moment away from eating to look up and show you his pretty face. Well done.
I find it so interesting that crows harass the crap out of hawks and yet if they were to read your commentary, they'd stay away permanently. Granted crows can't read, but geez, you don't mess around with talons and a beak like that. Great capture and fave.
wow!!!!!! Usually this kind of shot is from someone at a bird sanctuary or bird show. Way to go! Absolutely stunning photo! Too bad for the crow though...
I love it when stuff like this happens and we have our cameras! How exciting! The details are amazing, Laurie! 2 feet! Your lucky it didn't peck at you! Your such a risk taker! ;)
Wow, what a delightful shot this is Laurie. You can see his marvelous eyes and all the details in his feathering. I bet you were estatic. what a moment
AMAZING! This one was well worth the wait, Laurie. Without a doubt, fav! BTW, I sent you an e-mail a week or so ago. Whenever things settle down for you (funny, I know), just let me know.
Oh WOW! Oh WOW! I would have run, leaving behind all valuables as well! This is terrific! Esp. the blood speck. I see red shouldered hawks some...not this kind. Very neat to see and a fav for sure! Great capture!
sorry I am behind and that i didn't see it sooner!
