Today I went back to the Crosby Mansion to try to take more interesting architectural photos for the "Get Push, Week 13" challenge. My partner, Mel, challenged me to take a cityscape or architectural photo. I have always found architectural photos to be difficult to compose, so this challenge has been a great one for me. I think this one is a bit more interesting visually than my photo of the front of this mansion a few days ago. I just wish the weather had been better.
Hi Laurie, awesome capture! I agree there's more visual interest in this perspective, with the repetition of arches, the potted plant in the courtyard, and the yellow leaves of the tree framing the yellow of the mansion!
@webfoot That is a really good point about the light, Paul. When I was at this mansion a few days ago it was sunny and a similar photo that I took was just too dark and had too many shadows.
@mellow Thanks for giving me this challenge, Mel! I really enjoyed it and it helped me learn how to frame buildings in different ways. Obviously, I took alot more shots than I posted and they showed me what works and what doesn't.
@lauriehiggins Good, I'm glad I could help! BTW, I have to thank you for reminding me about my photo of the crazy guy with the Warhol statue - it gave me a chuckle all over again!
@melissapike That Warhol photo is iconic all on its own! And you really did help me...a ton! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. @sailingmusic Crosby Mansion is in Brewster, about a three minute drive from where I live.
