Masked Lapwing chick - I always thought they were called plovers - but now I'm advised they are lapwings

The parent birds nest on the lawns outside my mum and dad's house, they screech and hurl abuse and dive bomb anyone who approaches, especially when they are nesting or raising chicks.
a lot of people don't like plovers but they are only protecting their chicks who are so vulnerable! beautiful capture!

My kids call them Plubbers. WE had them nest on our lawn every year in NSW. Best parents I have ever seen! This is gorgeous Megan!

Do they have the yellow on the top of their beaks? Just wondering if they are the plovers I know. Gorgeous little chick.

@bella_ss those are the ones, the yellow "mask" like bit on their beaks, also known as spur winged plovers, the dive bombing can feel quite threatening, I've been watching the way mum and dad plover call out if they perceive a threat - and the chicks go racing off for cover

Great capture. Yes, they're lapwings but everyone seems to call them plovers here, too, including me. They can apply a very nasty scrape along the leg if you get too close to their nest. Can't help admiring their attitude.
