I went for a walk to investigate a bird reserve when this little monotreme ambled across the track ahead of me. The sounds of my footsteps caused him to bury his face and legs into a tree stump, presenting just his spiny back. Two ladies walked pas and as their footsteps faded he decided to check if I had left and I was rewarded with this brief glimpse of his face.
I have long been fascinated with the idea of mammals which lay eggs, being the platypus and echidna, I did a long term project on the platypus for year 11 biology.
Gosh - I learn something new every day on this site! Never heard of an echidna before but I'll remember it as he looks so cute in your photo. Your patience paid off well done!
Awesome capture! I'd never even heard of echidnas - thanks for the lesson! And kudos for being patient, waiting for the perfect shot. It isn't easy - I always rush.
Oh wow, it's so hard to find an echidna when you look for one. I never seem to have my camera when I come across them. This is a wonderful shot. Fav. for me, too.
