Great White Shark - taken from the safety of the shark cage
for @brizmako who requested this photo be shared with all of you on 365. I still say being in the water with these magnificent creatures was a thrill and a privilege, I was quite tempted to go out and do it again today (mind you there is no guarantee that you will actually see sharks on the trips, after all they are wild creatures not trained performers) but my first ever experience of seasickness yesterday and a severe sunburn .... and the cost made me decide a quiet day in the national parks was probably a better idea.
The dives take place off some small islands 2.5 hours in rough sea, the Southern Ocean, nothing significant between us and Antarctica, so the water is chilly too. This activity is closely regulated by the government to ensure the well being of this protected species, the shark diving is often associated with research into these creatures to expand our knowledge of them.
100% thoroughly amazing, and I'm talking about you. You're fearless! Best animal encounter, ever. Thank you for letting me live vicariously through your your incredible exploits :)
I wish everyone in the world had the same view as you guys - I hate stupid journalism and films which villify sharks, we're decimating the population and people have no sympathy, on a par with murderers.
@chewyteeth I love sharks, it is amazing after being in the water with them I don't see them as the villains they are depicted as, I see them as magnificent, powerful fish, I hesitated to post this picture of him as the jaws agape is the typical fear mongering view of them
By gaw, that is fearsome looking creature! And I was scared piss-less of the swim I was had (unintentioanlly) with Barracuda! LOL Thanks to your friend for sharing, Be very well, Les
