Film February - Quan Yin (Goddess of Mercy) - Penang
On my way home from posting in Belgrade I worked at the Australian Embassy Jakarta for about 4 1/2 months and then Australian High Commission Kuala Lumpur for another two.
The staff in KL intorudced me to the buddhist goddess of mercy Quan Yin. I took a weekend trip to Penang where I saw this giant Quan Yin - very appropriate that I took this shot with a Canon camera (Canon 30E 35mm film SLR)
Quan Yin/Kwan Yin/Guanyin/Kuan Yin (and other variations, but importantly to me is the Japanese name is pronounced Kwannon or Kannon - the originator of the Canon camera company Goro Yoshida named his proto-type camera Kwanon for the goddess of Mercy and the original logo was thousand-arm Kwannon Goddess.
Of course I knew none of that at the time, I just found her tranquility very comforting and this trip was the beginning of my collection of buddhas and of Kwan Yin statues from places I have visited all over Asia. Each one I buy is examined closely and it has to feel right to me.
Yep, the tranquility is clear in this shot. Really like it.
AND, I finally posted a balloon shot of it laid out in the park for you!
They're a bit small, but you get the gist. Perhaps more to come I think.
Makes me love Canon that bit more, cool shot, so we're leaving Eastern Europe and Turkey for a new 007 assignment, where will it be...Sadam's Iraq, Talaban held Afghanistan (oops been there) Grozny, Myanmar, North Korean, Iran....?
wow again!
