Hello Kitty Emperor and Empress Hina (Dolls) by lbmcshutter

Hello Kitty Emperor and Empress Hina (Dolls)

wandering around a shopping mall in Tokyo we found an entire shop dedicated to Hello Kitty. These cost 21000Yen which at the time equated to $250 Australian or Canadian, $200 US, 100 Pound or 150 Euro.

I have long had a fascination with emperor and empress dolls, the doll festival and so on as a result of reading books by Rumer Godden when I was young (and I was never really into dolls).

I was amazed by all the different Hello Kitty goods for sale from little ornaments to hello kitty as tall as me, toasters which made a hello kitty impression on the toast, various other household appliances featuring Hello Kitty, tiny purses through to large suitcases, all types of jewellery, clothing and pretty much anything else you could imagine or never dream of seeing Hello Kitty on.
It is a process of alienation as a Marxist tourist guide described to me in the cathedral in Copacabana in Bilivia in relation to the dressing of dolls of the Virgin. Fascinating description

Hello Kitty, goodbye money. Interesting phenomenon, I've seen pictures of a few Hello Kitty items that just bogle the mind. Cool shot.

Very cute little ornaments :) I've never heard about the doll festival - I think I'll have to read up about it. We have some shops here that have a lot of Hello Kitty products too.

well the toaster would have to be an essential item! consumerism is alive and well in the hello kitty world!

@jenrobcarr - Yup. I don't often profess to wanting much, and I rarely drop my standards to needing. But that toaster...
