on this day .... 12 months ago .... I was in Ocean Grove with @jenrobcarr to see Brolgas
my big objective was to see a brolga - and we did, this is not the greatest shot, it is a pretty heavy crop, he was some distance form us, but I got to see him and that was what counted for me. Brolgas are Australian natives and a member of the crane family. Whilst there numbers are stronger in northern parts of Australia they are listed as vulnerable in Victoria and I felt very fortunate to have seen one. It ws actually better than that we saw a pair and a baby, but they were too far to get a shot of them, but I have the memories.
Later on we saw blue-billed ducks, which are on the endangered list in Victoria.
I hope to get back down that way for another shoot one of these days
@jenrobcarr - thinking about the orange-bellied parrot and out last shoot, given that we saw two threatened birds last time we must bring luck to each other so perhaps we will indeed see orange-bellied parrots next time we have a shoot!
Oh lucky you! I have seen Brolgas in the Northern Territory and even in northern NSW but they are few and far between and very shy. They are spectacular to watch, especially when they dance. Gorgeous shot here.
@girlie the first time I ever saw Brolgas was on the Stuart Hwy in the NT, and they were dancing as we hurtled towards them at 130 km/h - that made me want to see them again and again - I did get a couple of shots through the car windscreen which I posted earlier this year - I really want to see them again
I haven;t seen the brolgas this year, most disappointing
