Tintern Abbey by lbmcshutter

Tintern Abbey

It was a bitterly cold day and the sky was almost white most of the day. The light was not a photographer's friend.

Am Australian friend (married to a Welsh guy) said if I was going to SW Wales I really needed to go to Tintern Abbey, so after my first weekend in the UK being in Wales, we missed out on visiting the Abbey but did go to Castell Coch which was in Doctor Who this week - so exciting to see a place I have been on a tv show. Anyway Tintern Abbey and SW Wales is not too far from Bristol and my wonderful host took me back there to see Tintern Abbey. He had to work during the week so the first week I went to Bruges on the Eurostar and the next week I wanted to go to Iceland - had seen some stunning photos from there and I was at the tail end of the Northern Lights season. The trip was not cheap at the last minute and I came down with a terrible cold, plus my 'friend' (still don't know what to call him) also wanted to go there with me sometime, so on the drive to Tintern Abbey I was trying to figure out where to go the next week. Prior to heading to the UK I had said I wanted to go to Cornwall and see Tintagel, and the next weekend was the last of my trip so we decided we'd head to Cornwall. He really did his best to indulge all my wishes on places to visit, it was very lucky that we both like visiting historic sites and taking photos and there were so many wonderful sites and great photographic opportunities. We both took sneaky photos of each other. Both of us preferring to take photos than to appear in them. But in retrospect I am cursing the fact that with multiple cameras between us, shutter releases, self timers, tripods etc we never ever thought to pose and take a shot of us together, but now I am kicking myself for not thinking of it.
I did take a photo of our hands, as we held hands walking along around the Abbey. So soppy.
Wonderful shot.

Lovely shot of the beautiful abbey! Sounds like your photo-travel wish list is very similar to mine :)
Pics are good, but the experiences and memories are just as important, if not more so.

I think it looks great against the trees and white sky... really shows its age and condition somehow better than a sunny day with blue sky... does that make sense? Bet you had to hold hands to keep warm.... :)

Oh, that's so cute! It's nice that you got the hand shot... but how could you miss a shot of the two of you together!!! Fantastic shot of the ruins, it would have been great to see.

Alia is right though, the experiences and memories are the most important.
