Bright Berries by lellie

Bright Berries

These are the seeds of the Iris Foetidissima or Stink Iris which grow in odd spots all over my garden. I have never planted or propogated them but they are always there and increasing. I can only guess that a bird dropped a seed some time in the past, apparently they can take 18 months to germinate. The yellowy browny flowers are nothing special, but these seed pods are spectacular,
They look like mutant berries, so close to the lens! Very punchy image...!

I've a soft spot too for this very subtle flower. I don't even think it stinks.

I found these on my allotment when I first took it over. I didn't know what they were and they're all gone now. This is a great close-up.

Great contrast between the blue background and this deep, intense red.
