A messy job

Chopping 1.5 kilos of raw beetroot to make spiced orange and beetroot chutney. I hope it's going to be worth it!
I hope so too - I've never made a chutney with beetroot before. Love the colours.

@busylady @henrir Thank you. We have a bit of a glut in the garden and chutney is just one way of using them. This smelled wonderful when it was cooking.

Sounds a lovely chutney, do give up on the recipe please? I seem to have spent the last two weeks bottling, chutneying and doing anything else I can with tomatoes and beetroot!

It will be delicious I promise you. We made some last year and it definitely tasted as good as it smelt. Even people who don't like beetroot seemed to love it! My recipe suggested wearing disposable gloves whilst preparing the beetroot.

Sounds like a great chutney! I hope all the work is worth it!

@judithdeacon The recipe came from an old Good Food magazine, you can still find it on their website.
@paulaw Mine recommended gloves too, but I didn't have any. For a while my hands were a fetching shade of beetroot red!
@salza Thanks, I'm sure it will be.

The colour and glistening texture of the beetroot are beautiful. Hope the chutney is a success!

Great shot and colour! I hope you didn't end up too purple at the end of it!
