Rowing Home

I almost never do black and whites as I feel like they often end up boring, what do you think of this one? I'm not 100% sure about it - boring or not? :)

This is taken from the bridge in Sangklaburi - the longest wooden bridge i Thailand.
Such a wonderful shot! I love the tranquility you captured!

I probably split myself equally between black and whites and colour. It depends what you're shooting too. Portraits and fashion type shots I think can sometimes look great in black and white, but perhaps not so much in summer. Macro, detailed close ups, machinery, architecture can all look ace in black and white, and if a photo is weak in colour terms I will change it to black and white and darken it. Generally though I shoot in colour. I doubt very much there was anything exciting in this view colour wise so I think its good in black and white, the tide makes a nice pattern and strong pattern lends itself well to that format.

I think it's OK... the patterns of the tide is quite interesting in monochrome. Beautiful capture!

I happened to come across your album when looking for other photographers living in Thailand. I was loving your entire album and then I stumbled on this photo and couldn't believe it....I was literally in Sangklaburi 2 days ago...taking almost the exact same pictures!

@morganthailand - Hi Morgan, I'm so glad you found me :) I also love to follow other people from this region - and your photos are really super! Where in the south do you live?

My husband and I live in Trang...we're pretty close to the Malaysian border...it takes us 16 hours to get to Bangkok! We live in a little, rural village where we are the only people who speak English. I teach with a Thai co-teacher and my husband works with a local office on projects like building playgrounds and opening recycling centers. We have about 7 more months here, so I'm hoping to fill that time with beautiful photos and memories! It's so nice meeting you.

@morganthailand - it is really nice meeting you too Morgan, it sounds like you are doing some wonderful work down there. I hope your playground project succeeds :) As you know I am currently living in Bangkok with my boyfriend. Before starting a MA program in International Development Studies at Chulalongkorn University in October I try to cram in as much traveling and as many Thai classes and hours spent volunteering at a local orphanage as I possibly can. In 2 weeks time we are planning a trip down to the east coast, hopefully I'll get some good photos there - if it doesn't rain all the time! We have had some massive rains here in Bangkok the last week or so, it REALLY feels like the rainy season now! :)
