Map Ta Phut (Thai: มาบตาพุด) is a town and subdistrict in Mueang Rayong District, Rayong Province, Thailand. It is the site of Thailand's largest industrial park, the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate. The Industrial estate is responsible for a scary amount of pollution and many members of the community, living in very close proximity to the factories, are suffering from various diseases ranging from rashes, respiratory problems and cancer.
My master's program went on a field trip to Map Ta Phut, and amongst others we talked to a group of community members - this is one of the men. There were many tragic stories but also much laughter and hospitality displayed by the community members.
