Urban Wildlife Photo-shoot at Lumphini Park - in the middle of Bangkok.
This guy came swimming to shore with a catfish carcass in his mouth, on shore he started the process of trying to eat it. Monitor lizards have no teeth and have to swallow their food whole - this was quite a mouthful for this guy. It took him about 15 minutes to get it down!
If you have the time and inclination it is easier to see the dead fish if viewed in large :)
I've been back in Bangkok for a few days, but today is the first day I've taken any photos that is why it has been Denmark fillers for the last couple of days :)
@bec2702 - thank you so much for that lovely comment :) And I know what you mean about it looking surreal, the only explanation I have is that I used my big zoom lens and that made the water look very soft and pretty behind him - I think maybe that is it?
You and the ease with which you slide between two cultures is a joy to watch! Watching animals enjoy a meal is always "interesting". I've found that raccoons like cookies...Ken joked that they have no "chocolate cookie bushes" in the wild!
@Weezilou - ha ha - chocolate cookie bushes :) Monitor lizards are mostly scavengers so I think I would have to offer up some old chicken or something if I wanted to feed it :)
