Solitude

Today I took the day off work to stay home and get things done without the interruptions of family life. I’m a complete rookie at photography so I experimented in manual mode to see how aperture and shutter speed relate to each other. This is all I’ve got and it isn’t much, but I’ve got other things to do before the kids get home and my peace and quiet disappears.
nice self portrate.

@tralo29 @puzzledprof Thank you. I haven’t figured out how to photoshop wrinkles out yet!

whats wrong with it? I know all about the peace and quiet thing, I had some today, but it was cut short by the snow, they closed school early and its supposed to be this way all weekend.

It's reflective... I like it. I hope you enjoyed your "quiet time."

You look very thoughtful in your peace and quiet. I'm still working on shutter speed and aperture... we'll get it someday - soon, I'll bet! I think it's a lovely shot.

The great thing with digital is you can immediately see the outcome and adjust accordingly. You can take lots and lots of pictures and print out the ones you really like! Love your desire to improve your photography skills!

@flynstigator You’re so right about digital. I keep thinking about how much wasted film and money was involved in the learning process on the old days. At least I can practice to my heart’s content and not be throwing money out the window.

@wjw1741 What’s wrong with it? First and foremost, the subject matter I suppose! :) Seriously, sometimes it’s just hard to translate what is in my head into the photo I want. I’m still trying to figure it all out!

@erikadee THanks. Slowly, but surely I’m realizing I am learning. At first I had to concentrate to remember a lower number on the f-stop is a bigger aperture, but now that’s pretty much ingrained so I know it’s sinking in! I’m sure on day 365 we’ll look back at day 1 and realize how far we’ve come.

@lisjam1 I know that we (the picture takers) tend to be more judgmental about our shots, but honestly, It is a decent shot. Did you use a tripod??

@wjw1741 Thank you for your generous comment. Yes, I did use a tripod. I just ordered a remote for my camera which would have been helpful!

Just noticed this. This is really, really a good portrait. A couple light changes to ad dimension, and it is beyond spectacular. And, that would not be hard to do!

@moncooga Well thanks! A little Photoshop plastic surgery wouldn’t hurt either! Seriously, though, thanks. I was so disgusted trying to use my camera tonight, I almost felt like just pitching it.
