My father’s mother died in 1940 when he was just ten days old. I feel fortunate that his family held onto some of her things such as this china, silverware and the pocket watch. Dad’s grandparents came to America from Germany, but I’m unsure whether his mother was born there or here. The china in this picture is called Dorset Cheery Chintz and was made in Germany. As the only daughter of her only child, I was the lucky recipient of my grandmother’s china and other family treasures. I’ll keep and preserve them until it’s time to pass them along to the next generation.
Oh, that’s right. You like auctions so you probably know a thing or two about antiques and such. I’ve always loved this china because it is cheery and feminine. It’s too fragile to actually use, but I admire it frequently!
That's a really lovely photo of such a family treasure. How wonderful that you have them to admire. I like the way you set it up with the time piece and the tea... it's like going back in time. Nice one!
@mrssmith My dad researched family history and told me a lot about it, but it was mostly the Bell side he had information for since that was the side of the family that raised him after his mother died. He died of congestive heart failure and knew he was going to die soon so he started giving things away. He gave me a box of information about both sides but every time I look at the box it reminds me of that time, and I cry. I’ll dig into it eventually.
Lovely picture and a beautiful treasure. Keep a copy of the picture with this lovely treasure because it's part of the continuing story of your family.
