Here it is Thursday night, and I am sitting listless - in every sense of the word. I remember in the early days of my independence from my parents’ home, I thought going grocery shopping and buying whatever I wanted was nothing short of thrilling. That was in the B.C. period of my life - Before Children. Now it’s quite possibly my most dreaded chore except for perhaps cleaning up a hairball ejected by the cat. I usually look at the weekly ad, plan a menu based upon what is on sale, make a list based upon the menu, gather coupons based upon the list, and then grab my reusable cloth bags and head to the grocery, frequently forgetting the list and coupons. After dragging myself up and down every aisle, dodging distracted people trying to maneuver their carts while on their cell phones, and then waiting patiently in a line five carts deep, I get the ultimate thrill of paying for all of it. And while I’m ranting, I always find it ironic that at the end of my transaction, the little debit card machine asks me if the amount is ok. I always answer yes, but I’m thinking that $175 for a week’s worth of groceries is NOT ok. Back in the early days, my husband and I were able to stick to our weekly budget of $40. Unimaginable!
Loved hearing your story cause I can really relate. Now, I just run in for things I need. I don't really do a large grocery trip anymore. I am shocked every time I'm at the register. What I hate is when I remember my list and then forget to pick up things that are on it!!! Ugh. Nice pic!
Times have surely changed. When my Wife and I go shopping, we both are amazed at some families with their carts stacked high above the top of the cart, and wonder how on Earth they can afford to keep up with the cost of everything. There seems to be no end in sight, does it?
I love your commentary. I'm sure you're expressing the frustration of a good many of us. I hate grocery shopping, too, and that's with none of the pre-shopping effort.
CUTE! I know the feeling. My daughter was cute when she first moved out and was SO excited to get grocery shopping! Now, things are so expensive and crowded, it's my least favorite chore!
Oh I know how you feel, people using their phones especially texting while walking should be shot, they are so bloody self centred drifting all over the place, oblivious to anyone else.
Love the PoV and DoF in this shot
I remember the days when a gallon of milk cost 39 cents. On the other hand, I only made 6k a year and a new car cost $1500. Luckily for most of us, our salaries increased along with the costs.
I really like the focus of your photo...the pencil fading off into a blur...nicely done.
Oh, Lisa. You had me at "listless". It's so exactly how I feel... about grocery shopping, yes, and so many other things these days, too. BLAH. I do love the DOF you've used. It's a great photo!
Totally agree.... and now because I HATE shopping so much I have it delivered.... it also stops me getting tempted into purchasing extra items that I would when I go around the store.....♥
