No such thing as a blue bird!

I've just learnt there is no blue pigment in birds. Interesting! Perched here on the trampoline in our garden.

@koalagardens ☺️ I don't fully understand it but my bird book tells me the blue colour is produced by the microscopic structure of the feathers. The bluebird's colour relies on the same physical principles as iridescent hummingbird feathers, in which a coherent shattering of light reinforces some wavelengths and diminishes others. It goes into much more detail in the book but too much to write here!
