Today we went into Christchurch.
Many of the main roads leading into the city centre are permanently closed while rebuilding is being carried out after the earthquakes there.
It is very sad to see a city almost closed in parts.
We walked down one precinct where more than 20 shops were built out of shipping containers.
They looked great & were doing a roaring trade.
We also saw a lot of cracked structures that are closed to pedestrians.
We loved our one visit to Christchurch; so sorry the city is still struggling. The notion of the colorful freight containers to decorate the shops is brilliant, ecological and economical, I would imagine!
It's so sad to see this city - a city I've been to and seen it thriving and alive before the earthquake - brought to almost a standstill. I hope life is breathed back into it soon.
