Sequoia

Sequoia National Park. My sister Judy coming out of one of the trees.
Oh my gosh, I had trouble even seeing her at first. Great way to give an idea of the huge size of this tree. I'm guessing it is one of the giant redwoods I've heard of but never seen.

Oops, I'm an idiot...I guess it's a sequoia given that it's sequoia national park.

@gardencat Thanks Joanne. You are not an idiot. It's a confusing subject. The tree above is a Giant Sequoia. Found only on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada, usually between 5,000 and 7,000 feet. Sequoias are the largest trees by volume. The General Sherman tree is 275 feet tall with a base of 100 feet, weighing 2.7 million pounds. The tallest trees are the Coastal Redwoods. Big Tree, in the photo I took on Sept. 22, is 304 feet tall with a diameter of only 21 feet. Coastal Redwoods need the moist, humid climate of the Northern California Coast. The tallest Coastal Redwood is named Hyperion and is 379' tall. It is located in a remote area of the Redwood National Park but the exact location is kept secret. Amazing what you learn when you take road trips.
