I had a lovely lunch at the Australian Mint today. No they dont give away samples, but apparently you can buy watches with a face made from a coin minted in the year you were born....
...I did wonder why the Australian Government chose 'llll' instead of the Roman numeral 'lV' ??
...and because they use actual circulated coins, I thought this one seems to read " DANCE AUSTRALIA" rather than "Advance Australia" (as in our National Anthem). :D
(and if you were born in 1911 - you might not really be in the market for a watch to count the time !!!)
Interesting story! And yes, you 1911 is pushing it a bit! :0) Love the focus on the photograph and the reflectons in the gold band. It also looks like the IIII is processed so we look at it? No? Love this photo.
@espyetta it is SO funny you ask about processing the llll - way back in May this year I did some Roman Numeral clock face processing ( http://365project.org/ltodd/365/2011-05-31) and no-one seemed to get it, but this one definitely is "as-is".
@ltodd Oh wow. Now that picture certainly has numbers processed! So the IIII on this just caught the light like that? That is cool! And I see someone told you the theme was money...I had forgotten already....You got a good money shot! :0)
@espyetta LOL !...yes this was taken through a glass case which may have caused some of the numerals to have an unusual shadow effect. The building has lovely 2 storey glass walls and lots of down lights, so the lighting really contributes to the marketing of the watches!
