Beautiful! I really need to learn more processing... sometimes it really helps to bring out the best in it.

Very tastefully done, Lyn. . .are you using textures here?

@lyno Hi Kyn - yes there are about 3 layers, all very low opacity - used to increase colour contrast in certain areas, rather than 'visible' texture. I am still trying to understand (? learn to predict) what happens with an image when you use certain tones in texture. I learnt a lot processing the purple flower yesterday - using specific texture files to accent highlights for example, then masking out changes in areas that are unwanted. I now (at last!!) understand that textures in overlay are (almost) an instant way to apply a 50% grey fill in overlay mode & painting on the grey layer using black/white/grey paint to increase contrast. http://www.cgtextures.com/content.php?action=tutorial&name=blendmodes&page=5
I did actually not get the final result I was aiming for here, but it's all a learning curve.... :))

@ltodd Oh, my, thanks so much for what you've explained. . .I am still stuck with not truly understanding layers and their interactions, especially where masking is concerned. I keep thinking that that will be year TWO!!

@lyno LOL - I think it took me about 18 months of struggling to understand it properly, & then one day it all made sense! For the restoration of old images that I tint, I paint the colour on individual layers for each segment (hair/jumper/skin etc) & use blend modes so that the colour does not 'sit' on top of the image. Masking took me ages to get as well, but after a while it becomes second nature. The clock surreal image had about 30 layers & about 15 of those were masked! Hang in there with your learning curve & if I you think I could help you with anything, feel free to ask.
