I have been studying the style of Brooke Shaden this week ( http://brookeshaden.com/gallery/) and I really admire the way she always is very clear about what she is aiming to communicate with her images. Her style is unique, one that I don't think I would aspire to (even if I had a smidgen of her talent!!), but seeing a glimpse of her approach to her photo shoot and editing has been enlightening.
Here is my daughter in a car park near our home. I realised how incredibly uncomfortable I am at directing a model - even my own daughter! :)
Lovely image, I like the light. I like Brooke's work too. I'd love to be able to produce images something like hers but even if I could direct him my model won't look good in a dress.
@suebarni LOL! Brooke does make it all look so straightforward! I struggle to not make a mess of the camera settings & focus - a 'model' was exponentially more challenging. She could probably make any model look stunning - human or animal. @lisatargowska thanks Lisa :) natural lighting can be quite magical
Great looking natural light and tones for this picture! I'll take a look at Brooke Shaden's work for sure. The rim lighting around your daughter is spot on for the shot!
this is beautiful! the tones and light are stunning and there's something tremendously intriguing about the image overall... Just had a quick look at Shaden's work and it really is amazing!
I am a huge fan of her work, it is truly inspiring and love she teaches in a very very relaxed manner yet her work is truly intricate and incredibly creative. there definitely is something in this shot that reminds me of her work. beautiful!
@m9f9l :) I thought it might come to me while shooting (doh!) & that is lesson 1 from Brooke - start with a plan!! @redy4et I actually bought from a thrift shop for photography because it was a single colour, and the chiffon is so 'flow-ey' (7 we held it to gether with safety pins!) @roseolivia ohh thankyou! - Brooke is an artisan of compositing and colour correction as well as a beautiful shining spirit. There is so much more to know/learn in photography than how to work the camera!
This is really lovely - so atmospheric. It caught my eye as I was scrolling through the last few images of all those whom I'm following. Hope you have a great weekend!
