I had a push challenge from Kathy to shoot macro negative white space. I am not sure if I have filled her brief, and this is something that seemed quite different in my head!
I have so much to learn about lighting! I tried a few different placements to balance 'contouring' to really capture the texture of the exoskeleton of this tiny sea-urchin.
@kathyboyles I hope this meets your instructions Kathy. I learnt I need to keep thinking about shadows as well as lights, and perhaps I should have included more background and a slightly smaller object?
@ltodd Lyn. I just realized that I've been spelling your name wrong. Sorry. Your photo is great. There is plenty of white space. You have done a great job in completing the challenge.
This morning was discouraging. It was very overcast and the sun never did come out. I was outside with my camera for 45 minutes with no sun. Also. Did you see that I solved the exif problem with the help of Mike Gifford? Great job. Kathy
Lyn, I like the detail and you can see the long shadow being cast from the low light to the left. It looks like you have some soft and hard light sources coming from that direction.
yes - the fill lighting is the hardest to balance - the only control of my trusty (broken) desk lamp is via layering multiple plastic bags over the globe. I 'need' (aka really want) a second flash....
This is beautiful- fav! I feel like I could run my fingers over every bump on that shell. The lighting is great- I like the softness of it. Anything else would have been too harsh.
