grey heron by ltodd

grey heron

another photo from the local lake, edited in order to 'save' a photo that has a background that was way too distracting. At least I am getting plenty of practice with the wacom.

Can anyone tell me how to stop CC removing the camera exif data? I am not sure if LR or PS that is removing it, and as far as I can see in the settings I have checked, it should be there.
Wonderfully executed--very, very nice!! Not sure why CC is removing your data. Sounds like a missed setting? I shall have to take a look...

@aikiuser thanks Jenn - it is driving me nuts that I can't solve it.

The data is in PS there when I open the file, but if I work on an image for a while & have a bunch of layers, I like to save a new version at critical points of the edit. when I copy out a merged copy of the layers and paste into a new file, all the camera data & exif has disappeared. Even if I copy & paste the original unchanged layer into a new file, the data has disappeared --

Fabulous capture, it reminds me of a painting.

this is rather beautiful

Another easy Fav - this is a wonderful editing technique.

Lovely capture!

Love all of these Lyn, but I think this is favourite so far. Very clever editing.

Another excellent image! Your skills are way above mine so I have no earthly idea how to help you solve your EXIF problem.
You have inspired me to try this with my limited skills! No where's near what you've accomplished yet though. I'm still struggling with layers let alone all the other stuff here!

Gorgeous! FAV!

It looks like a painting Lyn. Sometimes when I process in Lightroom the Exif says it has been edited in PickMonkey, not sure why this happens either

All those bird shots can be a part of a larger artwork - a collage or something of the sort.

@vera365 when I did this one using a similar colour palette, I thought a few might work as a series. Thank you for the suggestion. 🤔

Wow looks like a surreal painting!
Sorry can't help with the Exif problem!

@grammyn hunt up the Sandbox page - I have listed the URLs for the tutorials on the profile page - this is basically the same method as used in the multiplicity tutorial. At he end, you can also add the background layer to the top & use softlight blend mode @ 15% opacity.

A beautiful work of art Lyn, super shot.

@ltodd I was thinking there had been atutorial on here before but my problem is I don't have PS or LR so I have to convert instructions and to do that I need to understand the mechanics of the programs I do use! That and my limited retention make it a struggle! ;~}
January 5th, 2016
Wow!
January 6th, 2016
@grammyn what program do you use Katy?

This style works really well for bird portraits! Another beauty!
January 7th, 2016
@ltodd sometimes I use PhotoFiltre, or iPiccy. I also have Gimp which I have been told is similar to Photoshop but for the life of me I can't figure most of that out! I'm a bit technologically challenged to start with and don't spend a lot of time practicing. When I do I often forget what it is I have done to accomplish the results I end up with! Probably just need to spend more time with it.

Simply beautiful! Humm on the data. Are you loading layers on top of the texture by chance? If so the data from the photo will not carry over.
January 12th, 2016
@grammyn I will look yup those rograms & see what help I can find for you. :)

@catwhiskers yes I think my order is not suited & I have tried creating duplicate photo layers between textures & it seems to help. I have not totally solved it, but I think I am getting closer to understanding how PS flattens meta data.

@ltodd You are too kind, Lyn!

I love all these bird shots, fabulous processing.

You liking the Wacom? I love mine.....can't edit without it!
January 17th, 2016
@mikegifford yes! luckily when I first worked on a computer (in the dark ages!)I was made to mouse left handed so the (dominant) right hand could use the keyboard for shortcuts....now have wacom pen in the R, and mouse & keyboard shortcut with the left. I am slowly finding the right brush tips & pressure settings for this technique. It is definitely faster with the wacom & easier on the repetitive wrist action. the mac is fabulous - but still reloading & re-downlloading mac versions of my plug ins. Treated myself with the Nik set & I like the lighting in Viveza & auto Dfine is good for 'quick noise removal. Getting used to PS slowly - but like finding it can do things like colour change so easily. It's back to work this week though, so will have less editing 'playtime'.

@ltodd Yes, all good stuff and wacom is addictive for sure. I'm trying all sorts of new stuff and getting frustrated as well as educated. Spent several hours today alone just trying to get some photo manipulation somewhat under control. The images get stuck in my head and and I have to keep coming back to the computer to work on them...too weird for sure!
January 18th, 2016
@mikegifford ha - that is the OCD side of people who persevere at editing images!
January 18th, 2016
I'm curious, too, Lyn, why the exif has been removed. Reading this, I checked my current upload, and the information is also gone. I put it through PS, ON ONE and then LR...only altered the background of the photo, so I don't know then that disappeared! Thanks for bringing that to our attention!
January 19th, 2016
@mikegifford @ltodd I must share this with Ken! In the morning he tells me he'd been awake thinking about the things he needed to get done (nothing fun in the lot!) As a polar opposite, I can't fall asleep for thinking through the steps to use to create what I envision in my mind's eye. And then I dream about it all night! Sound familiar?
January 19th, 2016
@Weezilou oh yes - the frustration really gets to me sometimes!
January 19th, 2016
@ltodd - Try this Lyn. When you are finished editing and have saved it, highlight the top layer in the layers panel. Then Hold down the "alt" key and with the mouse right click on the small icon on the right side of the; "Layers Channels Paths" panel. Continue holding the alt and mouse button and move the pointer up to "Merge Visible" and let off the mouse button. That will copy all the layer below. Do a select all and copy that layer. Open your original shot and click on "New Layer". Paste your finished layer that you copied into that vacant layer. Save this to be your final image. This will have all of your EXIF information intact.

@skipt07 thanks so much for your help Skip - I am new to using PS, so I will try your suggestion. Thanks also for your generously kind words about my images, faves & follow. I will get back to you asap on specifics, and please always feel free to ask any questions. cheers, Lyn
