Editing this swamp hen highlighted to me that the goal whether we are capturing or editing images, is similar to writing fiction -- both artworks need some form of 'tension' and balance as part of the story. Image can convey tension through composition, lighting, and tonal texture.
@pandorasecho thanks so much Dixie. :) I am starting to understand some of the the linkages between the elements that I am drawn to in the art that I like, and photography. I did not know of Audoban , but looking at them now - yep they are giving so many ideas already! :))) thank-you!!
Your getting very good at this. This is my favourite so far. The glimpse of the sun setting or rising in the background really adds to the mood of this composition.
I remember when you started this process so recently and how you seemed to struggle with it (although we couldn't tell by your results!) and now you seem to have mastered it! An excellent image that is totally art! You may have explained your process before but could you possibly say the basics you are doing to achieve this elegant look? Remember I am not technical at all!!
@jgpittenger it has been a 'slow revelation' for me too as a result of developing this editing style too. Balancing the light and shade, or smooth and textured surfaces etc, are types of tension. A lot of this editing style has been about me learning to 'see' how & where the light moves in each shot, and finding it and working with it, to accentuate the drama & create the 'tension'.
