greenhood terrestial orchid by ltodd

greenhood terrestial orchid

This is a shot taken in 2012, but processed today and posted now to remind me that I dismiss a lot of images as 'failures' because they don't turn out exactly as hoped on that particular day.
I started shooting RAW in 2012 after learning about the benefits on 365, & I am so pleased that years later I can revisit those RAW images & find some shots that I don't think now are really 'failures' after all!
this one is quite lovely...like the composition

I have been wanting to comment on this. I have spent many years finding and photographing native orchids when we lived at Mallacoota in far east Vic.
We used to call this one Pterostylis longifolia, until the botanical gurus said that was a NSW orchid and ours was Pterostylis melagramma (Tall Greenhood). I hope you get the chance to post more of your finds.

@ethelperry My orchid uploads are at http://365project.org/tags/orchid-lt - I probably should still put botanical names on them as well. I was actually checking the dates today to see when the main orchid season will start here. Greenhoods are really challenging to find here in the ACT, and because I hurt my ankle a bit while climbing a volcano in the Canary Islands earlier this year, I am hoping I can get to the orchids with only a little bushwalking this year. I am wanting to take more artistic than botanical shots this year. I do struggle telling the many of the greenhoods apart.

@pistache thanks Clare - I am really trying to learn to be more objective about my own shots. :-D

I agree, sometimes you can look back and think hey, I can make something awesome out of this! Well it doesn't quite happen to me - but I see it happen, including this awesome shot! It looks to me as it's sticking its tongue out / going bwaaaaa to us? :)
