I went out to take a picture of a cute chipmunk and found this shell.
I think it's a shell. I don't want to be rude and poke it, and it seems to have seen better days. What the heck is that thing by his leg. An alien popping out?
yeah i've seen these things before... i can't remember if its because they grow out of it, or if they're young eat them alive.. ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! haha i watch too much animal planet.

oh my, what is it?? a cicada? wow, I've heard these are difficult to photograph - you can hear them for miles but never see them. Great job if a bit alien like!!
Cicadas live underground for upwards of 7 years, then they climb out of the ground, up a nearby tree and shed their old skins for new flying ones. You have found one of the old shells.
I think it is a cicada shell. They are the insects that makes such a loud sound when they all come out and make the sound at the same time. It is a high pitched cricket like sound. Interesting photo.
Cicada, yay!! Kaz and I used to collect these as kids and then stick them all over each other when least expected. LOL. My 7 year old nephew justsaw this and asked "How did she get a perfect shot?" :-)
