This camel gave rides to kids at the state fair. I really felt bad for the animal. He seemed well treated, loved by the handler, and is part of a petting zoo type of thing but I think his life should be somewhere else.
well, you did get a good photo of him though.
i wonder that too, how we know what the animal would enjoy most.
i wonder if all the camels in egypt enjoy their lives?
Wonderful shot!! I had many of those same thoughts about the animals at the zoo I went to last weekend. Many didn't look so happy to be in their pens. Oh, if we could only read minds and care if we could.
He's beautiful! I've heard that camels can be very temperamental and let their feelings out when they're not happy - this one seems happy. I had the chance to meet and pet a baby camel once and it was one of the highlights of that particular zoo visit.
Kind thoughts, Maggie, and great shot. A fave, actually...it's that tattooed arm! I must say, this camel very likely has a better life than it would living in it's 'homeland'...just judging by the bridle and the fur on its face alone. I saw some pretty sad-looking camels in Egypt and Morocco.
Very fun shot. I share your mixed feelings about zoos...they are sort of a necessary evil. I try to remember that many of the "inmates" would probably be dead already where it not for their safe, but small havens.
@hillcrest Cheryl, there is another camel and they live on a farm. But they do the fair circuit. I'm just a person that adores animals and taking pictures of them, but I worry and want them to be well. Thanks for your input. I feel relieved after the comments.
I know that feeling. Even as a child I felt sad going to zoos. Even though I loved the animals and their diversity, I felt sad they didn't have their freedom.

I love these shots:D
im an animal lover if you haven't noticed haha
Great shot of him getting some treats:)
Yeah, they don't have voices, so we must speak for them, else nobody will...
