I noticed the squirrels hanging upside down, trying to get a drink from my swimming pool this summer. The creeks in my area have dried up with no rain. So I put bowls of water all over my woods.
A feral kitty showed up for a drink of water, this hot, dry summer. I would warn my cat to watch out for the bad kitty in the yard, so the name stuck. I ended up watering a fox, deer, squirrels, chipmunks, birds and the occasional bad kitty.
Ooer bad kitty is a proper grump unlike you, who obviously has star qualities to look after all those wildlife animals. Gorgeous shot though, just had to fav
Love your pov and I think that cat is beautiful. Poor little guy ... he needed a drink too! Awww ... I feel sorry for these cats who have to survive like that. I've fed and given water to a few of them too in my lifetime. And bless your heart for giving all of the other critters some water, Margaret. You're a kind person! :)
I can't help but fall in love with Bad Kitty. PS Did you know there is a whole series of kids' book about Bad Kitty? Here is a link to one of them: http://tinyurl.com/8jzge4a
@allie912 Allison, no I didn't know that. Thank you for the link. I call it bad kitty, but in reality, it's a lovely cat which I will provide a home for if it gets comfortable with me. (don't tell my hubby, he doesn't know yet :-) ).
@maggiemae Maggie, this is the feral cat. This cats look of apprehension is because I was near it as was my cat Broketail. It doesn't seem aggressive at all, just fearful.
Sounds like an exciting day in your backyard. What a cute shot of the stray cat...he looks too healthy to be feral. We have a raccoon in our backyard who hides under the deck all day so I can never get a photo.
@cimes1 Carole, this cat was so skinny at the beginning of the summer when it first came. It was horrible. Now it's putting on weight and looking so much better. The temperament has changed also with the trust building. It no longer spits at me.
what a beautiful photo! Are you sure it is feral? It doesn't have that vacant look I have gotten to know in the feral kitties. So glad you will give it a home (if all agree). :)
@ellen Yes, I have been feeding it for 3 months and have progressively been able to get nearer and the kitty is starting to respond. In the first few days it looked a bit rougher.
