Gunpowder, treason and plot

Reasons why this isn't a very good fireworks photo:

- I still only have an 18-55mm standard lens, which I'm not really sure was up to it.

- I went into the city too early, before most of the big fireworks displays had started.

- I didn't actually go into any fireworks displays, but just hung about in the street waiting to spot some fireworks I could take pictures of.

- This meant there were lots of buildings in the way. Also trees, and things.

- This also meant that I had no idea when fireworks would be let off, so I would sometimes react slightly too late to seeing one, and miss getting it in shot.

- People who were walking through the city because they were actually going to a fireworks display got annoyed with a guy just standing in the road with a camera.

- I had to be home in time for tea.
Hey! That 18-55 is an astonishingly versatile lens believe me - and I have some expensive glass. Fireworks are not easy!

Beautiful fireworks! You should try setting up for a display with your tripod and doing a long exposure

OK, I shouldn't blame the lens. ;) Fireworks *are* difficult!

I didn't really want long set-ups, though, when I was just standing in the road, with my car illegally parked! Maybe next year, I'll go to a real display... ;)
