Detail from the Gateway of the Sun, Tiwanaku, Bolivia

This pre-Inca ceremonial site dates from between 300 and 700 AD, and is near to the south shore of Lake Titicaca. The ruins are impressive and this detail of a 10 ton megalithic gateway, carved out of a single block of stone does not disappoint.
