This Mexican 20 peso bill is polymer and has a transparent window in the lower right corner with a 20 and another image engraved on it to help prevent counterfeiting. The purpose of the polymer is to make the bills last longer as they do not tear or crumple as easily as paper. They are starting with the smaller denominations on a trial basis and if they work as expected they will replace all paper bills with polymer. Maybe the U.S. could take a lesson here... I would love to have our money be prettier and sturdier. :) I used the coin in this shot primarily to help hold the bill flat as I was unable to completely flatten the fold. These 25 pesos are equal to about $1.98... depending on the day and merchant.
I have been wondering how long it will take until money as we know it disappears.Let's face it, all transactions coul deasily be made without even holding the bills and coins.
@hjbenson Thanks so much, Harry. I am def ready for pretty money... I am sometimes called the accessory queen, so maybe I would look at the different colors and coordinate my outfits to the bills I was carrying! :)
@boycotting Thanks, Justin... I have to admit that I rarely use cash, either, but I go to lots of school activities and they are not set up for credit/debit cards, so cash is a necessity for occasions like these... and it would be so much more fun if the money was pretty! :)
