BALFOUR BATTERY by markp

BALFOUR BATTERY

This is at Hoxa Head, South Ronaldsay, and is part of a complex of four coastal batteries with associated accommodation camps and ancillary structures. It was used to guard the entrance to Scapa Flow, during both the First and Second World Wars.
The very large guns were situated down at the front, near where the lady in purple is standing.
