I found this in the garden a couple of weeks ago. It was lying on the compost underneath a large conifer in a pot. I think it is an almost complete Blackbird skeleton.
Pretty sure, I have not arranged them in their correct places.
@30pics4jackiesdiamond You give me too much credit Jackie! I'm not so good on bones and there's nothing here for scale so it's hard to judge the size! I wouldn't disagree with blackbird though.
I'm intrigued with how big the pelvis is compared to the head, it makes sense, but I'd never thought about it before seeing this and identifying the bones to myself as I looked it over
@roachling@30pics4jackiesdiamond I used to collect skull's, years ago, still got them somewhere in a case. Road kill or other stuff, I came across, beach combing could turn up some surprises.
There are lots of Blackbirds around, the only other common bird of a similar size, is a Starling, ( which is slightly smaller). From memory, and seeing live ones around, I am sure Starlings have a straighter, more dagger like beak.
So it was just an educated guess.
What a great find Mark!
