ANDERTON BOAT LIFT - THREE by markp

ANDERTON BOAT LIFT - THREE

Here are two more views of the boat lift from yesterday. These show some of its operations. The top image shows the barge which has just descended from the higher canal, the gate having been opened to let the barge out.
The lower image shows the barge leaving, and heading out into the river. This is a working barge, it looks like it sells and delivers to other barges, and riverside properties. It has bottled gas, coal and other bulky household items. It also had a sign saying it sold fishing bait.

I don't think these images are up to my normal standard, I posted them to give a sense of scale of the lift.
I had just rounded the corner when I spotted the open gate, and was trying to get out of the way of the out going barge, plus trying to get the wind behind me to prevent the rain getting on the camera lens, ( a big fail), getting the canoe into the right position to shoot the scene, and adjust camera settings all at the same time.

Another of todays posts here......

Hi Joanne @gardencat I hope these images make it a bit clearer.

I think it does but I’m still grappling somewhat with perspective. It’s hard from here to believe that long barge will fit into the lift.
