A BREAK FROM NEST DIGGING

Thirty Days of Puffins - Day Nine

In case you don't know, Puffins nest underground, either in crevices between rocks, or burrows. They will use disused rabbit burrows, but are quite capable of digging their own. Sometimes you will get great sprays of dirt being thrown out with their legs as they make themselves a nesting hole.
Occasionally you will see a very muddy, dirty puffin, of course a quick swim soon cleans them up again.

Another puffin post here.....

You are bringing back all my memories of last year's trip to the Treshnish Islands. I could have sat and watched the puffins for many many hours. So delightful. I shan't think of something to say about each of your shots - but I shall continue to enjoy them. (I am also waiting to find out if you managed the classic shot with all the fish lined up in the beak!)
