The lodge I spoke of yesterday was state of the art for it's time. Windows can be opened by dropping them into the basement with a contra weight; there is an elevator - not for the staff of course; it has a generator with electrical lights and there is a central heating system.
When Berlage came back from a visit to London he took back his love for the Big Ben. He was so fond of the sound he made a copy for the lodge. Very impressive when the (extremely precise) clock strikes!
