I got my Covid follow-up shot in my left shoulder yesterday. I expected to have a very heavy, tired and painful arm today, but that is not the case.
I also expected that there were more people who want to protect themselves (and others) but that was also not the case (I say "you're welcome" to all the 'wappies'). I was able to walk right through without any queue. That was of course a welcoming side effect.
Furthermore, I had to keep 1.5 m distance, but it was almost impossible not to. And a mouth cap was mandatory. Why? If this is the only place in our country where these measures still apply, then what's the point...
It also cost €35 because my bike broke down and I had to have it repaired. I know it has nothing to do with Covid at all, but still... It could have cost an extra €95 because my replacement bike didn't have a light and I didn't find out until late at night. Fortunately, the police were busy with other things.
WHAT a Saga! One does wonder why protocol is required in "one room/city/store" and not in another, and what helps and what doesn't! Your visual image certainly told the story as you tried to do your best in these strange and awkward times! Good Health to you!
@mastermek We have been in Nova Scotia Canada all summer, and I've heard of no one getting sick, but some are very paranoid about becoming ill (they want to sit outside and won't go into people's houses.) We'll return to California in early December (Orange County, south of Los Angeles) and except to walk into a doctor's office, no one wears a mask. I presume some are getting the booster, but it almost seems like a non-issue there! Same while staying in Massachusetts (near Boston) for a month, visiting our daughter & family soon for a few weeks. More people were wearing masks than in California when we visited in May. Our daughter is a 5th grade teacher and no one is wearing masks. She got covid, stayed home for a week and was right back to teaching. It seems pretty loose. No one seems to be given hard facts to go by! It seems an unsettling virus to contend with!
@Weezilou Thanks. Good to hear you're ok too. I haven't been ill either but I do know a few people with long covid which is really awful! It's definitely one of the reasons I did get my booster. I exaggerate a bit with the amount of people, but it certainly wasn't a lot of people. Outside of this booster, Covid hardly seems to exist in our daily lives. You don't even hear about conspiracy theories anymore :-)
It is hard nowadays - it has always been my understanding that the vaccine protects you from severe illness more than it actually stops the virus spreading. I think that is why the numbers having boosters is not as high as some would like - people have had the first shots, had covid and made it through....the ones continuing with the shots seem to be those who are vulnerable or comprised or those who haven't had it yet.
I am curious about your light comment. I cycle, but rarely at night, and only my sturdy touring bike has lights on it. None of the others. Using lights is mandatory over here, but I would guess that over 90% of cycles I see at night do not have them.
But I have never heard of anyone ever being fined for not using lights.
Do your police hand out fines for that ?
@markp haha. Yes sometimes! It all depends on the officers. You usually get away with it. Sometimes you get a warning and you have to walk (until the corner of the street of course). But they do occasionally check some routes and then fine anyone without proper lighting.
