Red, white and … purple? by mastermek

Red, white and … purple?

Last week there was quite a bit of consternation about the 'upside down flags' of the dissatisfied farmers in our country. For years, our farmers were encouraged to get as large as possible, resulting in mega farms and mass barns. And now they are more or less pushed aside by a changing view of factory farming and nature conservation.

The problem is so great that many farmers (and supporters) lack the will to properly hang out the flag for 2 days (memorial day and liberation day). There are way too many flags to turn around anyway. Many people, especially relatives of war victims, find this disrespectful. But I do understand.

Yesterday during Remembrance Day on Dam Square in Amsterdam, the organization had placed a large flag of flowers. Probably due to lack of blue flowers we have a red, white, purple flower flag during the commemoration. That seems to be the case every year, but because of all the commotion it caught my eye this time.

I'm not quite sure what I find worse, a flag hanging upside down or one that isn't ours at an official occasion. Or rather I do know...
Strangely enough there are not many (close up) pictures of the flower flag. This is a photo (by Dick Thuis) from 2017, with a small visible corner of the purple flowers.
