14/365

Out for a stroll around my neighbourhood.

Checking out a few touch up techniques: fixing up blemishes with the heal tool; lightening / deepening shadows using dodge / burn; adding warmth using a PSD photo filter; selective blurring & sharpening to draw attention to the eye.

I feel like the skin tone is still a little uneven. But comparing this to the original, it's not bad. I definitely would like to learn more about what settings are needed to capture that delicious creamy look you see taken by people who know what the heck they are doing. :) Maybe longer exposures with a lower iso? Is it a lighting issue? (I was outside around 3:30pm.)

Advice welcome!
I think this is a great shot. I really have a thing for depth of field backgrounds. Something about the foreground focused and the background blurry looks very "movie" style to me. You mentioned advice.... Soooo... I reworked the pic and sent it to you on Facebook. Tell me your thoughts. if you like I'll trade some secrets!

I think it would be cool if one day just for the day EVERYONE on 365 posted someone they follows pic and reworked it. Same pic different perspective/spin. Would be interesting.

@warrenbhall Cool, got your emails - thanks Warren! Yes, definitely spill the how-to beans! (You added some sort of contrast, perhaps?) I am totally into learning by example and critique. I've been posting unprocessed/processed versions of some of my photos in the hopes of giving context to conversations about this stuff.

@warrenbhall And yes, processing each other's images - that's a GREAT idea for a challenge! (Not that I've figured out yet how you participate in those things, but once I do I'd be game for that for sure!)

Love your glasses, hat and scarf. The tone and frame of this shot is really nice. It has a really nice street photography feel to it.

As for your question about creamy skin 50mm prime lens is your best friend and focus on the eyes. I use a soft box and anything I don't like that is left behind is fixed in photoshop. If you can share an example of the type creamy skin you want I might be able to point you in the right direction. :)

Thanks again @jenteal ! I have a 17mm to 85mm lens, which is fun for exploring all sorts of composition ideas. But I definitely would love the wider aperture that the prime lens would offer. (I googled that too! :) ) I'm starting a folder on my desktop with examples of photos that I love. When I come across the creamy-skin thing I'm talking about, I'll save it and share it. I think it probably has to do with diffuse light...
