These four were part of a B-24 crew shot down over Germany on a bombing run. Robert Truex was my biological grandfather. My grandma remarried when my dad was an infant and my Grandpa McCarty adopted him.
@virtualbrownie We are trying to find out about the history before it is too late. My sister recently found a 2nd cousin in Oregon. They had no idea what had happened to this long lost relative.
@mcrt We just buried an uncle who apparently helped rescue Lord Mountbatten from HMS Kelly in the battle of Crete - the film In Which We Serve was based on HMS Kelly.
Typically of his generation he did not talk about it and when it was mentioned in the eulogy very few of the younger generation knew anything about it.
